Let’s spice up the New Year’s resolution talk!
So, every year, a bunch of us get all fed up with the low level of satisfaction in certain areas of our lives. Cue the wave of motivation crashing in, and we start drafting up our grand plans for the upcoming year. It’s like hitting the reset button—a fresh start, a turbocharged life makeover. We’re convinced we can pull it off.
During the holiday season, we give ourselves a pass on overeating and drinking too much because, hey, come January 1st, we’re swearing off all our bad habits and embarking on a whole new existence. But surprise, surprise, reality throws us a curveball. It’s great to realize that change is needed, but just making promises to ourselves won’t cut it. Take a couple of my clients, for example. They’ve vowed to break out of their social cocoons, find their soul tribes, and dive into the dating scene. Promises are fantastic, but turning them into reality requires more than wishful thinking.
If you’re serious about shaking things up in your social and love life, it’s time to ditch the couch, step out of your comfort zone, and try things you’ve never done before. Sounds daunting? Not really, especially if you’ve got a solid plan. Let me give you some ideas for New Year’s resolutions that are easy to stick to and will still level up your dating game.
1. Embrace Online Dating: If you’re not on the apps yet, it’s time to jump in. Create killer profiles with dazzling photos and a compelling life story. Consider it a technological wingman, introducing you to folks you wouldn’t cross paths with otherwise. Forget the skepticism; online apps work, with over 40% of people finding love in the digital realm.
2. Craft a Social Calendar: Your job won’t love you back, but a vibrant social life and a partner can make life richer and longer (seriously, it’s scientifically proven!). Grab a cute calendar and dedicate it to social activities. Join groups, try classes, and engage in experiences that make you more interesting while enriching your life. Show off your “New Year resolution of creating a rich stimulating social life”, and be proud of it.
3. Boost Social Confidence: Flex those social muscles just like you would at the gym. Aim to talk to at least one new person every day, anywhere really. Being shy and introverted is not an excuse; it’s just a lack of practice. Challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone and experience the world beyond autopilot.
4. Stay Curious: Treat every person you meet as a portal to an unknown life story. Get curious about others’ worlds. Self-improvement comes not just from reading articles and watching YouTube videos but from interacting with real people. Don’t just indulge in mental masturbation by reading without implementing—get out there and make it happen! Ask yourself “What can I learn about myself today and others?”
Sure, making changes can be tough. Our brains love the safety of the familiar. So, decide for yourself: Do you want safe and lonely, or do you take on the challenge that inevitably leads to a more fulfilling social and dating life?
Just imagine that on New Year's Eve on December 31st, 2024 you can be spending with a significant other and in a circle of friends, basking in the glow of your efforts and achievements, reveling in a sense of fulfillment.
Now, that’s a New Year’s celebration worth aiming for!
